More About Me

My Purpose

I was born in Brooklyn, New York. I am a first-generation American, from a Jamaican family. I attend Syracuse University with a dual major in Art Photography and Communications & Rhetorical Studies. Other than photography and graphic design, I enjoy many more art forms. I am a creative that enjoys visual and performing arts like photography and fashion. I’m passionate about both photography and being a model. My background in performing arts has allowed me to develop a deep appreciation for self-expression. Performing has been a vessel for me to find my authentic voice and explore my personality. I am a part of a campus magazine called Renegade Magazine, which is the first black general interest magazine on campus, where I served as the Photo director, creative director, and currently as a Co-editor-in-chief. My two core values are uniqueness and knowledge. I want an impact on the world that reflects my personality. I believe people should embrace their differences instead of being ashamed of them. This can help us reach our full potential and build strong connections with those around us.

The more knowledge we gain, the better we become. Ignorance is inevitable for all of us, since the world is vast and there are so many things to learn. However, trying to learn more and understand different perspectives is an effort to improve and be a part of the solution.

Being diagnosed with ADHD, and growing up with an IEP, it was hard focusing on tasks, but I always persevered. I left my special education classroom in third grade and began my journey of taking more rigorous classes by using the best of my ability to focus, adapt to new environments, and take on new challenges. As I got older, I challenged the ignorant belief that people like me, with mental disorders or learning disabilities, were “dumb”. I tried hard to prove myself and prove that I was worthy through my behavior, that if I behaved and spoke well, people would perceive me in the best way. It pulled me into a place where I depended on what people thought of me. But I chose a label wouldn’t define my standing in a school or the world. I have been blessed with many opportunities to explore new skills, such as studying abroad in Seville, Spain and Florence, Italy. My purpose is to inspire and create more diverse spaces through my various crafts in performing and fine arts. As an artist and human, I am open to growing and exploring ways I can develop and be better.
